Dinner at the Thomases

While we were living on Ridge, our ward started having dinner groups. The premise was, anyone who was interested could sign up, and from that number, groups of 8-12 people were formed. These groups had dinner together each month or so, with a diferent couple hosting each time. In our group, we dined first with the Clydes and next with the Ellingsons.

In November 1982 it was our turn to host, so we quickly acquired a dining room set. It's the same mirror-topped one we've always had. It arrived on the 4th and we had our guests on the 19th. We served green salad with roquefort dressing, French onion soup, filets with vegetables and potatoes, and chocolate mousse.

Since then we have put the poor table & chairs through much usage. Besides the occasional dinner party, we have had Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve dinners, and the occasional murder mystery and prom date. It has served as my general work surface, my sewing table and cutting board, and spent about a year as Gordon's computer and art storage station. The chairs suffered their own abuse, to the point that, right before Gordon's mission, we had to have them reupholstered, recaned, restained, and refinished, since the kids were finally old enough to stop tipping them over backwards and jumping on the cane backs. Ever since then, they've been holding up quite well.
