Australia - Saturday May 14 - Happy Anniversary
Saturday morning after breakfast we took the kids to the Australian Museum, which was a short walk away. With the limited time and endurance that we had, we focused on the natural habitat displays of Australian animals, and the dinosaur and mineral displays. On the way out, we stopped at the museum gift shop and bought Gordon some dinosaurs and Laura some rubbery wiggly dinosaurs. Then across the street to Hyde Park; we put up our feet while Laura and Gordon played with their dinosaurs. Then back to the hotel and more rest.
Since it was our 7th wedding anniversary, David and I decided to do something wildly different and go out to a nice place without the kids. The hotel had a roster of recommended babysitters and we ended up with an elderly woman named Mary Eliot. Aside from being a smoker, and they were quite commonplace in that time and place, she was all right.
David and I went to a nice French restaurant called Le Trianon, where we had prawns, salad, saddle of lamb with bearnaise, passion fruit souffle, chocolate-dipped strawberries, and macaroons. Then we hired a taxi to give us a tour of the city; he drove us to the famed Sydney
Opera House and then across the bay for a spectacular view of the cityscape. Finally, back to the hotel where we paid off the sitter, packed our bags, and went to bed.
