Australia - Thursday May 12 - Ingham
Thursday morning we drove to Ingham, a tiny little town that was one of David's areas. It was a long drive through the bush, so we saw open country for quite a while. They had yellow diamond signs with kangaroos on them, much as we have "watch for deer" signs here. We even had a kangaroo jump across the road in front of us. That was cool.
When we got there, we drove around and looked at the sights. There aren't many. Ingham is a sugar cane town, much as Castroville is an artichoke town, so more sugar-cane fields than people, I imagine. We found a fish bar and had fish 'n' chips, dim sims, and soft drinks for lunch. Karren had a whole dim sim by herself. Then we drove around a little more and started back to Townsville.
On the way back, we stopped at a park that had Scenic Falls, so we took a walk in the rainforest to see, amid clouds of mosquitos, the lovely waterfalls and the walk there and back again. We also stopped and snacked on tins of fruit.
Back in Townsville, we went to Toppo's Spaghetti for dinner, which was slow and mediocre, followed by a stop for scissors, glue, and Kleenex. I wish I could remember why we needed scissors and glue. Gordon's homework? General craftishness? Or was there an overwhelming need to cut something out and paste it together? Whatever it was, mission accomplished, and then to bed.
