Back Yard

The back yard at Rose Circle was just right for a little boy to play in. Fenced in completely by a block wall, it was all grass except for a few bushes on the perimeter that were sandy underneath so Gordon could dig around to his heart's content after running himself to exhaustion around the yard. Gordon enjoyed himself thoroughly, and often left his little toys under the bushes and the dinette sliding door open.

We decided that this was a good opportunity to have a vegetable garden. We dug up a sizeable corner of the yard, and planted any number of things that I can't remember because they were only moderately productive. The one exception was zucchini. Zucchini is notorious for its productivity, and we had been careful to only plant half a row. Didn't matter. The zucchini plants--all five of them--practically took over the back yard, and produced in such abundance that we were helpless to make a dent. ("So, what would you like for breakfast? Zucchini pancakes? Eggs & zucchini? or cereal with a side of zucchini?") But we like zucchini and did our level best.
